Edition notes: There are two places (both concerning the text in the second part, "Amor…") where this otherwise fine edition should be corrected:
1) in bar 26 the text must read "ch'ei sospiri", in accordance with both relevant partbooks, Rinuccini's poem in the 1622 edition and the Italian grammar: for verbs of willing and wishing the congiuntivo is to be used
2) in bar 30 the partbooks differ: the B.c. has "ch'ei mar-" for three notes, the canto "ch'ei suoi mar-" for the same notes; Rinuccini has "Ch'i suoi mar-". "ch'ei", as used in the partbooks, doesn't seem reasonable, because the emphasis of the person isn't necessary ,whereas the article is missing, so this seems to be a misreading, based on the superficially similar text in bar 26. As there is also a missing syllable in the B.c., the partbooks cannot be regarded as sufficiently reliable in this case, so using Rinuccini's version, which alone represents a grammatically correct text, is the best solution. The text therefore should be: "ch'i/suoi/mar-". This version, by the way, is also used in the text published in cpdl.

Fébus ještě nepřinesl nové jitro světu,
když ze svého domu vyběhla dívka v plném krásy květu.

Její bledou tvář zřetelně bolest poznamenala
a nová chvíle zase nový vzdech z hrudi jí vyrvala.

Pak zašlapala květy do země, pobíhala kolem bez cíle
a svou lásku ztracenou takto zaklínala zoufale.

Noch hatte Phoebus der Welt nicht den neuen Tag gebracht,
als ein Mädchen aus ihrem Hause trat.
Auf ihrem bleichen Gesicht zeichnete sich ihr Schmerz ab,
häufig entfuhr ein tiefer Seufzer ihrem Herzen.
Die Blumen zertretend irrte sie hin und her,
ihre verlorene Liebe also beklagend:

Amor, sprach sie, zum Himmel schauend und hemmte ihren Schritt,
Amor, wo ist die Treue, die der Verräter mir schwor?
Unglückliche!
Mach, dass meine Liebe zurückkehrt, wie sie einst war,
oder töte mich, damit ich mich nicht weiter quäle.

Unglückliche, ach, nicht länger konnte sie solche Kälte ertragen.
Ich will nicht, dass er seufzt, außer wenn er fern von mir ist,
und dass er mir von seinen Qualen spricht, fürwahr!
