Original text and translations

Italian.png Italian text

Il vagh' e dolce sguardo,
qual hor lieto rivolta,
madonn'in me tutt' ardo,
per la gran gioia ch'è in me raccolta.
Ma poi ch'ella m'ascolta,
e che selvaggi'e schiva
ver me ver me si mostra
più ch'io non vorrei,
quasi m'adir a lei.
Vuol che liet' e penoso così viva.

English.png English translation

The pretty and sweet look,
That now you happily turn to me:
My lady, I burn inside,
For the great joy that I feel.
But then, she listens to me,
And that shows herself looking at me
Wild and retiring
Even more than I'd like her to,
It almost makes me angry.
She wants me to live happily and painfully.

Dutch.png Dutch translation

De mooie en zoete blik,
Die je mij nu zo vrij zendt:
Mijn vrouwe,
ik brand van grote vreugde.
Maar dan hoort ze mij.
Ze straalt en keert zij zich van mij af,
zelfs meer dan ik zou willen.
Het maakt me bijna boos.
Ze wil me gelukkig en smartelijk zien leven.
