"Handel" redirects here. You may be looking for Jacob Handl. See also the disambiguation page for Handel.
Aliases: Born Georg Friedrich Händel (Haendel on typewriters without ä), he adopted the phonetic spelling Hendel in Italy around 1707. In 1727 he petitioned for British citizenship under the name George Frideric Handel and this has been recently adopted by major reference works like Baker's and New Grove. He nevertheless usually signed his name and published as George Frederick Handel and that is what is inscribed on his funeral monument in Westminster Abbey's Poets Corner.
