Biography
Born in Mechelen, Melle is presumed to have been 8 years old when he joined the choir of St. Rombaut in 1562. He later claimed to have been named after the infant duchess Renée of Lorraine, adopting a more italianate name when he moved to Rome in 1580. He disappears from the record in 1596, though a few madrigals were published under his name in Antwerp in 1597.
