French text
Corydon, verse sans fin
dedans mon verre du vin,
afin qu’endormir je fasse
un procès que me tirasse1
le cœur et l’âme plus fort
qu’un limier un sanglier mort.
Après ce procès ici
jamais peine ne souci
ne feront que je me deuille,
aussi bien veuille ou non veuille,
sans faire ici long séjour
il faut que je meure un jour.
Le long vivre me déplaît,
malheureux l’homme qui est
accablé de la vieillesse !
Quand je perdrai la jeunesse,
je veux mourir tout soudain,
sans languir au lendemain.
Cependant verse sans fin
dedans mon verre du vin,
afin qu’endormir je fasse
un procès que me tirasse
le cœur et l’âme plus fort
qu’un limier un sanglier mort.
1: literally: to catch birds using a net
German translation
Corydon, gieße andauernd
Wein nach in mein Glas,
damit ich einschläfern möge
einen Handel, der mir Herz
und Seele jagt, stärker
als ein Spürhund einen toten Keiler.
Nach diesem Handel hier
sollen jemals weder Schmerz noch Kummer
machen, dass ich mich beklage,
nicht weiß, ob ich will oder nicht,
ohne hier lang Aufenthalt zu nehmen
muss ich eines Tages sterben.
Lange zu leben missfällt mir,
unglücklich der Mensch, der
niedergedrückt ist vom Alter!
Wenn ich die Jugend verliere,
möchte ich plötzlich sterben,
ohne Leiden am nächsten Morgen.
Indessen gieße andauernd
Wein nach in mein Glas,
damit ich einschläfern möge
einen Handel, der mir Herz
und Seele jagt, stärker
als ein Spürhund einen toten Keiler.
Corydon, pour wine constantly
into my goblet,
to make me put to sleep
a quarrel, which chases
heart and soul stronger
than a track hound does a dead boar.
After this quarrel here
neither pain nor sorrow shall ever
make me lament,
or that I don’t know what I want,
without staying here long
I have to die one day.
I don’t like to live long,
miserable is the man that is
depressed by age!
If I should lose my youth,
I wish to die suddenly,
without suffering the next day.
Meanwhile pour wine constantly
into my goblet,
to make me put to sleep
a quarrel, which chases
heart and soul stronger
than a track hound does a dead boar.
