External Bulletin Board Upgraded

As the first action of the CPDL Transition Committee, the external Bulletin Board (aka "forums") has been upgraded and is now located at forums.cpdl.org/phpBB3. The upgrade should prevent the majority of spammers and solve posting problems. You can use your old login on the upgraded BB. The Bulletin board here at ChoralWiki will be active at least for the time being, so feel free to use either.

Starting a new topic: Click on the [edit] link at the right of the General topics (most recent first) section and type

== <title of new topic> ==

at the beginning of a new line, below the comment line that reads "Start NEW TOPICS immediately below this line, ABOVE (BEFORE) any other topics." Then post your initial message as described below. Thus, a new topic will appear before (above) any other topics, to make for easier browsing. For example, typing

== Looking for works in Quenya ==

will start a new topic, appearing as:

Looking for works in Quenya[edit]

Starting new topics in the Announcements and special topics section should follow the same protocol, but such topics should only be started by CPDL Admins/Sysops.

When adding a message to an existing topic, simply click on the [edit] link at the right of the topic title and post your message below any previously posted message(s) on the topic as follows:

Posting a message (note NEW syntax): Start a new line, and use the Template:ItemPost in the format:

{{ItemPost
|by=<your name & date>
|text=<your message>
}}

The easiest way to sign and date your message is to type four tildes (~~~~) for <your name & date>. Thus, for example, typing

{{ItemPost
|by=~~~~
|text=
Here is a sample message
spread
over
several lines.<br>

It even has more than one paragraph.
}}

resulted in:

Here is a sample message spread over several lines.

It even has more than one paragraph.

N.B. The old syntax for Template:ItemPost still works but is now deprecated in favor of the new syntax.

SF Bay Area: Renaissance Motet One-Shot Advanced Sight-Sings for Fun

  • Posted by: Vaarky 17:28, 17 July 2008 (PDT)
 Help

I organize occasional get-togethers for 4-8 singers to do advanced Ren motet sight-singing for fun. These are aimed at singers who can read a Ren motet correctly on the first try (alone on their part) without sounding like they're searching for the notes or getting lost; occasional fleeting errors are only human. We generally sing each piece only once. Singers are usually at the pseudo-professional or professional level; the sound varies based on who is attending and is different every time. We meet in Berkeley on a weekend afternoon or else in downtown SF on a weeknight. Each date is a separate one-time commitment.

E-mail motets2008 (at) stuy.users.panix.com and tell me about yourself if you'd like to find out more and/or get added to the invites list.

PLACES AVAILABLE ON THE SUMMER 2008 LITURGICAL MUSIC COURSES

 Help

There are about ten places left on each of the Summer 2008 Liturgical Music Courses (available to any voice parts).

The courses are designed for experienced choral singers (members of choral societies, chamber choirs, church choirs etc.) Scores & rehearsal CDs are sent out well in advance. Course fees (£235) include entrance to all course events, one light meal each day, and transport to Ely & Bury St Edmunds (EoE course) / Great Malvern & Worcester (Malvern course).

See http://www.liturgicalmusic.co.uk for further details and to make an application, or call 0118 326 6319.

The East of England Liturgical Music Course (4th - 10th August) is based at Easton College, Norwich, and will involve performances in the cathedrals of Norwich, St Edmundsbury & Ely. It will focus on the great Anglican repertoire on the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including the rarely performed "English Mass" by Herbert Howells.

The Malvern Liturgical Music Course (25th - 31st August) is based at Redcliffe College, Gloucester, and will take us to the cathedrals of Gloucester and Worcester, and to Great Malvern Priory. Repertoire will be varied, and we will finish with perfomances of several large-scale works by Giovanni Gabrieli in Gloucester Cathedral.
