2. Die Lieb, die Lieb hat alle Stund
Neu wunderlich Gelüsten;
Wir bissen uns die Lippen wund,
Da wir uns heute küssten.
Das Mädchen hielt in guter Ruh,
Wie’s Lämmlein unterm Messer;
Ihr Auge bat: „Nur immer zu!
Je weher, desto besser!“
English translation
1. The ways of love! The ways of love!
Not satisfied with kisses:
With water we would fill a sieve,
A foolish errand this is.
And given breath a thousand years
we’d kiss forever, it appears,
and still want more of kisses.
2. And love each day at ev’ry hour
discovers new desires;
we bit our lips ‘til they were sore,
our kisses were afire,
and held our loved one tighter still,
just like a lamb at slaughter,
her eyes implore, yet more and more,
the more it hurts the better!
3. The ways of love! And it was so,
when love first came along.
And even for King Solomon,
love was the same old song!
