Small alteration

Would it be possible to make a small alteration to this template to limit the space after it to one (rather than two) empty lines? I know it's a small change but the template looks complicated so I'd rather not edit it! --Bobnotts talk 18:07, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Rob, the extra line break was removed from the template, but DPL seems to have a kind of bug that, when presenting lists in more than one column, introduces an extra line below the list. For one column lists the spacing has been reduced, though. —Carlos Email.gif 00:53, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, Carlos. --Bobnotts talk 08:48, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Alternate names?

Is there a way to accommodate alternate forms/spellings? For example if the redirect page Ludwig Uhland is put in the Template:Lyricist it's desirable to see the work page on the Johann Ludwig Uhland list. At present it seems that the only warning for a page editor would be a non-blue link if the redirect is deleted, and if other editors are aware enough not to have recreated it in the meantime.

We also have roughly equal numbers of create page cues for Salomon Franck & Salomo Franck. Richard Mix (talk) 22:11, 9 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi Richard. We do have a template for that, it's called {{Alias}}. All you have to do is add the alternate spelling to the template's list. —Carlos (talk) 16:24, 13 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks, OK but I was hoping Hirtenlied, Op. 88, No. 3 (Felix Mendelssohn) would turn up on the JLU page. Richard Mix (talk) 20:29, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
Now it does ;) DPL queries take some time to update. —Carlos (talk) 18:13, 15 June 2017 (UTC)

no results

Robert Lucas Pearsall has had the template added, with "Works yet to be added" misleadingly formatted as a subheader of "Musical settings of literary works" (these are compositions). What I'd like to find out is what will happen if a lyric by Pearsall is added to CPDL after I delete the obtrusive main header: is the output a bare title or page name, without a header or explanation of what the list is? Is there a way to hide the header until needed? Richard Mix (talk) 07:38, 29 November 2019 (UTC)

Hi Richard, the section "Works yet to be added" is in the wrong place, it should come before "Musical settings..."; I'll fix that. Concerning the absence of results, I can maybe make the template display an explanatory message in such cases. I could change the template to hide the header in such situations too, but all composer and lyricist pages currently using the template would have to be edited to have the fixed header removed. —Carlos (talk) 19:13, 29 November 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for taking care of Pearsall, and I just had a peak at Niccolò Machiavelli: really splendid! Richard Mix (talk) 23:19, 1 December 2019 (UTC)
Whoops, I thought it was now nicely laying dormant at Robert Lucas Pearsall, but he is in the lyricist field of The hardy Norseman's house of yore (Robert Lucas Pearsall)! Richard Mix (talk) 20:16, 2 December 2019 (UTC)
Hi Richard, this is the expected behaviour when the lyricist and the composer are the same person. We just avoid having a work listed twice on the composer page. —Carlos (talk) 21:57, 2 December 2019 (UTC)

Well, obviously not expected by me ;-) but I see "Musical settings of literary works" actually means 'Lyrics set by other composers'. If one wishes to get an idea Pearsall's other field of activity, where would some equivalent of Category:Robert Lucas Pearsall lyrics be found then? I had the idea of clicking on the blue linked name in the Lyricist: field, but that of course took me to the composer page.Richard Mix (talk) 20:35, 3 December 2019 (UTC)

That's a good point! Template {{Composer}} currently creates a link to the composer page, and likewise, {{Lyricist}} links to the lyricist page. Maybe we could add a link in front of the Composer's/Lyricist's name pointing to the list of compositions/settings. There aren't specific categories for someone's settings (or lyrics set to music); what we have is a workaround using What links here: Special:WhatLinksHere/Robert Lucas Pearsall settings. —Carlos (talk) 04:10, 7 December 2019 (UTC)

Although it might be safe to remove LyricistSettingsList in his case, I wish Arnolt Schlick were uncluttered by

The most recent edits to the template seem to consider "if more than 10 results" and "if else": could a "if 0 results" scenario suppress the header altogether? Richard Mix (talk) 10:07, 19 August 2021 (UTC)

You're right. I will make the changes. — Barry Johnston (talk) 14:54, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
Changes made to this template so that there is no display when there are no settings. Is this what you wanted? Let me know of any problems. — Barry Johnston (talk) 03:37, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
Thanks! I almost said looks good, but ;-) Richard Mix (talk) 20:05, 21 August 2021 (UTC)
