English text
O Night, lovely Night,
Thou art holy and calm,
Thy cool, dewy breath
To the worn brow is balm;
The day, with its heat,
And o’erladen with care,
Toils onward and pants,
That thy rest he may share,
O Night, gentle Night,
With thy twilight so soft,
Thy moon’s grateful ray,
Myriad peeping eyes aloft,
Thy soul-breathing air
Stealing o’er us so light,—
A rich boon art thou!
