German text (original spelling) Ist nicht Ephraim mein thewrer Sohn und mein trawtes Kind? Denn ich denck noch wol daran, was ich ihm geredet habe; darumb bricht mir mein Hertz gegen ihm, daß ich mich sein erbarmen muß, spricht der Herr. (modernized spelling) Ist nicht Ephraim mein teurer Sohn und mein trautes Kind? Denn ich denk noch wohl daran, was ich ihm geredet habe; darum bricht mir mein Herz gegen ihn, dass ich mich sein erbarmen muss, spricht der Herr.

English translation Is not Ephraim my dear son, the child in whom I delight? Though I often speak against him, I still remember him. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I have great compassion for him, declares the Lord.
