Biography

Nothing is known of Arthur Chamberlayne and 'Ave gratia plena Maria' is his only known work. A 'Chamberleyn' was a chorister at Magdalen College, Oxford in 1485/6, implying a date sometime in the 1470s. The composer, however, appears from the style of his antiphon to have been a younger person, belonging to the same generation as Thomas Tallis.
