English text
Here, in the grove of gypsies,
’Mid the merry song,
Let us raise our song!
Morning is breaking,
The bluebird is waking,
Bees kiss the dewy clover
Over and over.
Down from the mountain
gushes a fountain;
Pretty fish are leaping,
In the water;
Who would now be sleeping?
Sunlight brightly shines,
Bright gems are brightly glowing;
Who would know repining?
While flowers are growing?
For in the woodland down in the valley,
Along the woodland way,
Rove the gypsies at play
By the vine leaves ever shaded,
Where blossoms are so many;
Twine ye the clustered blossoms,
(’Twill cost ye ne’er a penny),
Pluck ye the fair purple heather.
Bright hues now are gleaming
Upon the placid lake
That is fringed by the brake,
Where the sunlight e’er is streaming;
Now, in the morning early,
Cloudforms grow pearly.
Here, every care dispelling,
Glad hearts are dwelling.
Come, join the chorus!
Heaven smiling over us.
Gay fortune tellers
Bright fates are reading,
Ope wide your purses,
Give freely.
Value gives double.
Gold brings but trouble.
Dusk trinket sellers
Ponies are leading.
The smile that reimburses,
’Tis worth a golden coin.
Gypsy singing sweet song now
Its glamour is flinging,
Buds everywhere now unclosing,
Fairies now seem posing.
Dance till the moon-tide
And sing of the June-tide;
For Where the gypsies hideth,
Joy ever abideth.
