The night with deep'ning shadows stealing,
Its mantle o'er the landscape throws,
As if to shade each human feeling,
And wrap all nature in repose.

But ah! the lovely night returning,
Brings no forgetfulness to me;
I lie and watch, in ceaseless mourning,
For him who tosses on the sea.
