What do people think about a new category for "odes to music"? Many leading composers have produced one of these odes: Schubert, Purcell, Tomkins, Lassus, Bateson, Parry, Chabrier and Holst.

Some of these odes are addressed to Saint Cecilia, the patron saint of music. There is a category for those http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Category:St._Cecilia but many other odes to music do not mention her at all, most notably perhaps Schubert's "An die Musik".

As I was saying on Johnathan's talk, "Odes to X" straddles a line between genre and subject matter, and it seems to me rather than worrying about what exactly is an ode, it may be time to start a whole new branch of categories by subject, sort of a Secular counterpart to Sacred music by season: Songs about drinking instead of a 'genre' Brindisi?
