Latin text Ubi est Abel frater tuus? dixit Dominus ad Cain. Nescio Domine. Nun quid, custos fratris mei sum ego? Et dixit Dominus ad eum: quid fecisti? Ecce vox sanguinis fratris tui Abel clamat ad me de terra. Maledicta terra in opere tuo quae aperuit os suum et suscepit sanguinem fratris tui de manu tua.

English translation Where is your brother Abel?’ the Lord asked Cain. ‘I do not know, Lord,’ he replied. ‘Am I my brother's keeper?’ The Lord said, ‘What have you done? Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother's blood from your hand. Listen! Your brother's blood cries out to me from the ground.’
