Some of the editions on this page are scored for SATB, and some for Soprano solo and SATB where the sopranos take the 1st alto part and the altos take the second alto part. I have sung The Blue Bird in both ways but I personally prefer the latter scoring. Any enlightenment as to how Stanford intended the work to be performed would be welcomed here. See the introduction to 'The New Novello Part-Song Book'. According to the editor, Robert Walker, Stanford wrote the piece for S, A1, A2 with no solo specified, although the score, as printed in the book, does muddy the waters somewhat. It would be interesting to know if the composer's MS survives (I imagine it would be worth a pretty penny!). RMD 11:35, 24 March 2011 (CDT)
