Spanish text Ojos claros y serenos, si de un dulçe mirar sois alabados, ¿por qué, si me miráis, miráis airados? Si cuanto más piadosos, más bellos pareçéis a quien os mira, no me miréis con ira, porque no parezcáis menos hermosos. ¡Ay, tormentos rabiosos! Ojos claros y serenos, ya que ansí me miráis, miradme al menos.

English translation Clear, serene eyes, when you would be praised for a sweet glance, why then, when you look on me, do you look in anger? Since so much kinder, so much lovelier you would appear to him who sees you, look not on me with anger, lest you seem the less beautiful. Ah, furious torments! Clear, serene eyes, if you will only look on me thus, at least look on me.
