Latin text Occubuit clarus patriae proh gloria Vitus,  virtutis verae et religionis amans. Vos igitur Musas et vos pia corda bonorum  tanta viri merito funera flere decet. Heu tibi quem similem nobis mors atra reliquit,  quis pietate tibi, Vite, secundus erit?

German translation Tot liegt der glänzende Vitus, ach, unsres Vaterlands Zierde,  wahrer Vortrefflichkeit Freund, wahrhafter Gottesfurcht auch. Deshalb, Ihr Musen, ist's recht, und auch Euch, Ihr Herzen der Frommen:  Weinet über das Grab, so wie der Mann es verdient! Wehe, welchen Dir gleich hat der schwarze Tod uns gelassen,  welcher an Frömmigkeit Dir, Vitus, ein Zweiter wird sein?

English translation The illustrious Vitus lies dead, who was the ornament of our fatherland, the friend of true excellence and of true religion too. Therefore, Muses, it is right for you, and also for those who walk in the paths of righteousness, to weep over the grave, as the man deserves. Alas, is there any that is your like whom black death has not taken from us and who can match you for religious feeling?
