Original text and translations
En is de man van smarten nu een kind des doods geworden?
Und ist der Mann der Schmerzen nun ein Kind des Tods geworden?
And has the Man of Sorrows now become worthy to die?
Is his mouth closed forever?
The eyes without light and blind:
Has the light of life fled from the Son of Light?
He is silent…
But the earth, touched by his blood
now gives the answers with quake and tremble
and shakes awake the dead,
who creak in the underworld;
as a sea of life,
no longer restrained and tossing up,
rocks ripping, until it swarms out the dead
gathering them with the living!
Thus, death becomes a silent witness
when the proud man confesses and bows down:
Truly, this was the Son of God!
