General Information

Title: Dem aber, der überschwänglich tun kann
Composer: Felix Mendelssohn
Source of text: Romans 16:25
Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: SATB
Genre: SacredMotet

Language: German
Instruments: A cappella

First published:
Description: This is a sketch for the oratorio "Eliah" that did not make it into the oratorio's final version. It was apparently planned as an introduction to a fugue on the words "Dem sei Ehre", but only the first 14 bars of the fugue (after this introduction) are preserved. Regardless, the introduction works nicely as a short stand-alone piece of praise.
