William Linley

Biography
William Linley was one of the children of Thomas Linley the elder
(and as such the brother of Ozias Thurston Linley): educated at St. Paul's School and Harrow, he entered the service of the East India Company as a writer. On his retirement from the company, he established himself in London as an author and composer.
He contributed several psalm tunes to A Collection of Sacred Music, compiled by J. M. Coombs Jr. of Chippenham, to which collection he subscribed. He also edited "Shakspeare's Dramatic Songs", published in 1816 and containing contributions from himself and others.
His biography in the Dictionary of National Biography notes that 'He occasionally visited Bath, and many of his anthems were performed at Bath Abbey Church and St. Margaret's Chapel, of which he was joint proprietor.'
On his death in 1835, he was the subject of a set of 'Recollections' in the Gentleman's Magazine by William Lisle Bowles.
