Welcome and thanks

Welcome to CPDL, and thank you very much for working on language templates, translations, and the like. I'm glad that you have already mastered the usage of the templates and that you have correctly created the Category:Works in Zulu. It's great to have you helping out! If I can be of any help to you, don't hesitate to contact me. -- Chucktalk Giffen 10:30, 17 March 2008 (PDT)

Hi Chuck, thanks for the welcome! I have already contributed to the Portuguese and English Wikipedias, that's why I found it quite easy to manage CPDL's interface. I'm still getting used to some templates, the correct way of creating CPDL IDs and the like, so expect to find a few more mistakes in my edits for a while and feel free to fix them. -- Carlos 12:54, 17 March 2008 (PDT)

Composer redirects

Hi again, Carlos. I removed the categories on the Jacobus Gallus link to the Jacob Handl page. User:Hofius erred in putting them there in the first place. Such categorizations should not be on a composer redirect page for the simple reason that it provides the wrong count of the number of composers in the various categories. In other words, Jacobus Gallus and Jacob Handl are one and the same composer, not two different composers! Actually, what you added after the "pipe" ("|") did not change the categorization, but rather caused the Jacobus Gallus (redirect) page to be sorted under "Handl, Jacob" ... pipes have a different meaning for categories (they are just sort keys). Let me say, though, that I really do appreciate all your good work and that you are very rapidly getting up to speed with the wiles and whims of Wiki. It is good to have another active helping hand on this large site. -- Chucktalk Giffen 00:30, 11 April 2008 (PDT)

Hi Chuck, I changed the categories because Gallus was appearing under letter H in "Slovenian Composers" category, together with Handl, what was clearly wrong. After the change Gallus passed to letter G, but you're right, it was a bit weird to have two entries for the same composer under that category. Regards -- CarlosTalk 01:14, 11 April 2008 (PDT)
Oops, you're right - I had them switched in my mind (as I was focussed on the fact that they shouldn't be there at all!), sorry for the confusion. -- Chucktalk Giffen 03:23, 11 April 2008 (PDT)

Adrian Cuello's page

Hi Carlos, thank a lot for the change, that you and your team are making in my web into CPDL, It is so great.!!!!

Hi Adrian, you're welcome! In fact it's not "my" team :) Most of the edits to your pages are done by very experienced admins and I just give them some help where I can. Your compositions are a great addition to CPDL! -- CarlosTalk 11:57, 21 April 2008 (PDT)

delnow versus delreq

Hi Carlos. When there is no doubt about the advisability of deleting a page, you can use Template:delnow, which is a "speedy delete" request and useful for superfluous redirects or left-overs from a merging of pages. The Template:delreq is really for requests which might need further input before taking a decision to delete. Not a big deal, but makes it easier for admins to read (and usually we take speedy delete action in the cases where delnow would normally be applied). Oh, and I tweaked the 2nd parameter for Template:Composer, removing the nbsp, since some usage would require punctuation (such as a comma, semicolon, or colon) to start the optional material. These points aside, many, many thanks for all that you are doing here at CPDL. You are a tremendous help. -- Chucktalk Giffen 23:44, 20 April 2008 (PDT)

Hi Chuck, I've been using delnow only to useless redirect pages, because I was insecure to apply it to other situations, but will use it more often from now on. Your changes to Template:Composer were fine, I had forgotten about the punctuations. And thank you very much for your kind words of encouragement! I can't guarantee I'll always be so active as now, but I really like doing this. :) -- CarlosTalk 11:59, 21 April 2008 (PDT)

User pages

Hi Carlos. Thanks for your recent edits on Fabrizio Perone's works. However, user pages should only be created when a user contributes an edition of a work which is not their own. So, in the case of User:Fabrizio Perone, I have reverted your edit to leave a redirect to Fabrizio Perone as he has only contributed his own compositions. Cheers --Bobnotts talk 04:00, 23 April 2008 (PDT)

Oh, I see, sorry for messing it up! -- CarlosTalk 11:43, 23 April 2008 (PDT)

CPDL #16731 - edited?

I have to observe that, while this is a perfectly good vocal score of this cantata, there is no way that it can be described as being "edited" by Carlos Augusto P. Mourão, since it is simply a copy of a file from the set of freely-available scores (based on the old Bach-Ausgabe) also available from such places as the Bach Cantatas website at http://www.bach-cantatas.com/IndexScores3.htm. --DaveF 23:02, 24 April 2008 (PDT)

Same comment applies here as Carlos Augusto P. Mourão's "edition" of BWV.119.--DaveF 23:04, 24 April 2008 (PDT)

From Bobnotts reply to my question at ChoralWiki:Sheet_music_requests_and_questions#Scanned_scores I assumed there was no problem in uploading it to CPDL site, but reading again his answer I saw he was talking of "copying" only. Since this score is also available on other sites, as you have pointed out, this page may be deleted if necessary. CarlosTalk 00:02, 25 April 2008 (PDT)
When I was replying on the above mentioned page, I didn't make the connection between the copyright issue and contributing the score to CPDL. I don't see why we'd need to remove the score - just a note about it being scanned should be ok IMHO. Also, change "Editor" to "Contributor" as Carlos didn't actually edit the edition. I'll go ahead with this unless anyone has any objections. --Bobnotts talk 03:49, 25 April 2008 (PDT)
Thanks, Rob, I've done the changes you suggested. --CarlosTalk 09:20, 13 May 2008 (PDT)

Piano accompaniment for a cappella works

Hi Carlos. I've just been deleting a couple of pages you marked and came across an edit you made to Tantum ergo (A-flat major) (Anton Bruckner) that I though I'd just flag up - the correct template for CPDL #80 is {{KbdRed}} not {{PnoAcc}} as the piano accompaniment in the edition would only ever be used for rehearsal. I've fixed it. Thanks! --Bobnotts talk 08:47, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi Bob. This "KbdRed" thing is new to me, one more thing to learn :). Thanks for pointing it out and correcting it on the score page. -- CarlosTalk 10:04, 2 May 2008 (PDT)

"No pages link to here (verified)" - really?

Hi Carlos. I've just removed your delete request on User:Carlos Augusto P. Mourão. You might like to check Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Carlos Augusto P. Mourão before you request that the page be deleted and suggest that you've checked what links there!! Good thing I checked, eh? :-) --Bobnotts talk 23:53, 12 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi Rob, you were quicker than me, lol. In fact if you had deleted that page it wouldn't be much of a problem, because right now I am keeping open a copy of the page Special:Whatlinkshere/User:Carlos Augusto P. Mourão and was removing the links to it one by one. But ok, next time I'll do things in the correct order, hehe. :) --CarlosTalk 00:08, 13 May 2008 (PDT)

Template:By

Hi Carlos. I don't know if you've seen my reply on the BB but I reckon it might be a good idea to integrate your idea into the existing Template:Translation. For this reason, it might be best not to add "By" to any more pages until a consensus has been reached - if it's agreed that your new template isn't adopted then it would have to be removed from every page that you add it to! Thanks --Bobnotts talk 03:06, 13 May 2008 (PDT)

Hi Rob. Sorry, I hadn't seen your reply on the BB yet. I was just adding the template to a few of my own translations to see how it would look, but will stop using it then. I'm going to answer you on the BB too. Thanks --CarlosTalk 03:44, 13 May 2008 (PDT)

Página de composições

Carlos, eu criei a página, o problema é que me retornou um formulário dizendo que o administrador do wiki iria disponibilizar a página em até 24 horas... Fsolda 03:11, 18 May 2008 (PDT)

Ok, já está tudo devidamente atualizado. Fsolda 11:08, 18 May 2008 (PDT)

Indexing uploads

Hi Carlos. Thanks for flagging up Memorare Mater Christi a 7 (Matthaeus Pipelare) - it has indeed been edited by Sabine Cassola, not John. Also, I've just seen Gut Nacht (Friedrich Silcher) - it's great that you're indexing editions that were uploaded to the site but never indexed. I wonder if you might try to contact "Martin" and any future anonymous uploaders (if you haven't already) to get their full (and real) names? It's unlikely that they'll stumple across the score page and edit it themselves! Thanks --Bobnotts talk 09:32, 29 May 2008 (PDT)

Sure Rob, I can try to contact them. By the way, by "contact them" you mean leaving a message in their talk pages? I know there is an option to send email to users, but it doesn't seem to be working properly, because email addresses need to be "confirmed" prior to sending/receiving any email from CPDL, and the confirmation code is not being sent (at least, I didn't receive any). Thanks -- CarlosTalk 11:59, 29 May 2008 (PDT)
I've just left a message on User talk:Martin so that you know the kind of thing I mean. Yes, the wiki email system is messed up, add that to the list of things to fix!! --Bobnotts talk 21:17, 29 May 2008 (PDT)

Christmas Songbook (Various)

Hi Carlos. I reverted your edit to remove "Secular" from the above score page because, although Christmas is a Christian festival, it is also a secular one. I understand your reasoning but I think we have to acknowledge that Christmas means different things to different people. One of the songs in the collection, Deck the hall (Traditional) is secular as noted on that score page. --Bobnotts talk 01:10, 4 June 2008 (PDT)

Ok Rob, if you say so, but indeed it isn't quite logical to me. Next time I'll try to remember to ask before I make potentially controversial edits.-- CarlosTalk 01:45, 4 June 2008 (PDT)

Sabine Cassola's scores

Hi Carlos, I'm continuing to post Sabine Cassola's scores from her CD she sent me. I have about another 50 to go - more esoteric composers mostly from the Italian renaissance period. I was wondering if you could make up the Composer pages for me for the ones that are not already on CPDL ?

  Stefano Bernardi - Verona 1585 - 1636, Salzburg
  Samuel Friedrich Capricornus - 1628-1665
  Giovanni Battista Conforti - c. 1535-?
  P. Caron - c. 1450

I'll just make stubs if you are too busy. I'm all set with the scores (they are already uploaded...) Johnhenryfowler 13:41, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

Hi John, I can help you with the composers, give me just a few minutes and I'll start creating the pages, ok! You're doing a great job, Sabine must be really proud of you! Music lovers everywhere will be indebted to you both for this extensive contribution. -- CarlosTalk 13:52, 27 June 2008 (PDT)

Hi Carlos, If you are ame here are 5 more obscure composers with no composer page:

  Forest ?-1448 - Trienter Codices 87
  Glogauer Liederbuch
  Heinrich Schwemmer - 1621-1696
  Ioannis Turnhout - 1520-1580
  Tobias Zeutschner - 1621-1675

If you could make composer pages for them I'd appreciate it. (about 35 more scores to post...) Johnhenryfowler 06:12, 28 June 2008 (PDT)

Hi Carlos, Seems I have one more composer page required...

Claudio Pari - 1611 - ? (Sizilien)

Work: 3 madrigals from a collection of 12 - "Il Lamento d'Arianna":

  • 1: La sciatemi morire
  • 4: Sonno crudel che nel notorn' oblio
  • 12: Deh s'alcuna pietat'il corti pugne

Are you able to help ? Johnhenryfowler 04:08, 30 June 2008 (PDT)

Need conversion from Finale 2007 to Finale 2006 for file processing

Hi Carlos, Thanks for the new composer pages! They look great! I've come across a file in Finale 2007 format (which I can't read - and consequently can't process into MIDI and PDF file required to post.

http://www.cpdl.org/wiki/images/a/a7/Binchois-Virgo_Rosa.mus - 41KB

Can you convert it to Finale 2006 and repost - or process the PDF and MIDI files to complete the posting set of PDF, MIDI, and Finale files ? Johnhenryfowler 01:41, 28 June 2008 (PDT)

Hi John, unfortunatelly I also have Finale 2006 and couldn't open the file, either. Try posting your request on the forum, maybe someone else has the 2007 version. -- CarlosTalk 03:35, 28 June 2008 (PDT)

I have Finale Notepad 2008 -- and a Macintosh -- so I can do both of these steps for you. Shall I upload them when I'm done? Kkroon 13:26, 14 July 2008 (PDT)

Hi Kurtis, thank you for your kind offer, but it seems Chuck has already done it for John; check here: Virgo rosa (Gilles Binchois) --- Carlos 15:05, 14 July 2008 (PDT)
