Biography
Robert Goldbeck was born in Potsdam, Germany. After training under Kohler and Litolff, then in Paris, he became a successful pianist and composer in London. He moved to New York, teaching and composing. With Eben Tourjée, he co-founded New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He left to Chicago and established The Chicago Conservatory College. He moved to St. Louis where he was co-director of Beethoven Conservatory and conductor of the Harmonic Society. He moved around to New York, Germany, Chicago, London, and finally back to St. Louis where he died. His compositions include a cantata, symphony, orchestral works, piano works, songs and various small pieces.
