Biography

Marcellus Higgs was born in Lambeth, Surrey, England. He became an established composer, organist, arranger and conductor in London. He was organist at St. James’ the Less, Pimlico; and St. John’s, Westminster; and conducted the St. John’s Choral Society. He was also Member of the Court of Assistants of the Royal Society of Musicians. His two sons James Higgs and Henry Marcellus Higgs were both successful organists. He died in Tooting, London. His compositions include the operetta “The Noble Moringer,” anthems, works for harmonium, songs, and part songs.
