Biography

Louis Morris Evilsizer was born in Jay County, Indiana. He became well known throughout the Mid-West as a music teacher and composer. He held music conventions and singing schools throughout the region. For a time, he lived in Vates Center, Kansas, and held conventions in Coffeyville. In 1892, he took charge of the Portland Normal School in Indiana, and turned it into a conservatory. His wife was Ruth Adalyn Hearn Evilsizer (1862–1899), author of many hymn texts. He died in Carthage, Illinois. He composed many songs, hymns, and Gospel songs for school publications, hymnals, and singing school collections.
