Latin text Ante ortum fuerat caeli terraeque profundae |
English translation
Before the heavens were created, or, far below, the earth,
In the holy union of the Trinity, God himself existed
As the word of the sublime father and of the true eternal light.
When the creator of the world made life and light,
He saw humanity as worthy of the highest honour:
An indissoluble bond unites the word [Christ] and humankind.
