Latin text
Verbum supernum prodiens nec Patris linquens dexteram,
ad opus suum exiens venit ad vitae vesperam.
In mortem a discipulo suis tradendus aemulis,
prius in vitae ferculo se tradidit discipulis.
O salutaris hostia, quae caeli pandis ostium,
bella premunt hostilia: da robur, fer auxilium.
Unitroque Domino sit sempiterna Gloria,
qui vitam sine termino nobis donet in patria. Amen.
English translation
The heavenly Word proceeding forth, yet not leaving the Father's right hand,
going out to do His work, reached life's evening.
By His false disciple to be betrayed to foemen eager for His death,
Himself, the living Bread from heaven, He gave to His disciples beforehand.
O victim and salvation, who opens wide the gate of heaven,
we are oppressed by savage wars: give us your strength, bring us your aid.
Everlasting glory be to the Lord, three in One,
who gives us life without end in heaven. Amen.
