User Nicola's contributions

Some, most or all of this user's contributions are links to this page: http://digilander.iol.it/palmir/choral.html. This page hasn't been available for years! Is there a way to remove all these contributions at the same time? I think the best way to list them is going to [1] Thx in advance --Orpheo 00:37, 26 November 2005 (PST)

Buongiorno Orfeo!

The Internet Archive (aka Wayback Machine) has come in slightly handy - early iterations of Nicola's page included MP3 files hosted on a separate site, http://web.infinito.it/utenti/n/n.fiorino/

Old versions of this page are also accessible through http://web.archive.org/ with some overlap of files, from which I deduce the editor's full name is Nicola Fiorino, and sure enough, you can google for this name and find several chamber music performances in which he's played cello.

Anyway, if someone could put him in touch with me, I'd be delighted to discuss obtaining some of his files to host here. My e-mail is phi1ip AT netscape DOT net - the letter L is in fact the number 1. Ciao! --Pml 20:28:47, 2006-05-14 (PDT)

TUMS Busking Book

Hi Raf!

I noticed you starting to finish the work I've begun - basically with 26 editions to add at once, and therefore about 52 separate pages to edit, I ran out of energy rather quicker than desired. I did a fair number of them on January 15 and soon after, and will hopefully finish off the rest today.

--Pml 14:51:09, 2006-01-18 (PST)

One other question: when I was adding a bunch of scores the other day (allocating CPDL ID#10735 up to 10763), I unintentionally forgot to comment out the troublesome apostrophe as \', and noticed that the CPDL ID number had incremented despite a failed update to the table. I then had the same problem from putting an overlong piece of text into one field, which took 3 goes before it was acceptable to the server backend. Does this mean there are now gaps in the CPDL table? By my reading there should be a single gap at 10755 and a gap of three from 10760 to 10762; I've inserted the piece by David Ellyard as CPDL ID#10755, and moved CPDL ID#10763 back to CPDL ID# 10760; this leaves me 3 numbers allocated to insert new additions to the compendium of scores.

Regards, Philip

Gabrielli Sonata (for strings &/or brass?)

Hi Raf,

On User talk:Vladimir there is a message for you, which I have replied to as best as I can ... it's about a contributed score which seems to be an 8 part Gabrielli Sonata (for strings &/or brass?) ... Nice work, but not a choral work.

About the icon for Chinese translation

Hello, Mr. administrator. I am the one who attempted to submit a flag icon at Image:Chinese.png for several times. For some reason, the icon that I submitted could not be displayed correctly. Instead, it shows a warning message like this:

Warning: This file may contain malicious code, by executing it your system may be compromised.

I am sure that the icon that I submitted was of the correct format, and should not contain any "malicious code". Do you have any idea how to fix this problem?

The icon that I submitted is primarily used in Chinese translations, as in the page for "Ave Maria". Actually, there exists two writing systems in the Chinese language, namely Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Traditional Chinese is used in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan (especially Taiwan), while Simplified Chinese was adopted (or "invented") in mainland China after the Communist Party took over. The Chinese translation in the page for "Ave Maria" is actually in Traditional Chinese. Therefore, I think it would be more appropriate to use an icon that contains the flag of Taiwan, instead of the flag of the Communist China. As freedom of religion has long been oppressed in mainland China, the Chinese translations of most sacred music are in Traditional Chinese. So, it would be useful to make an icon with the flag of Taiwan for Traditional Chinese.

What I just said seems to be very confusing. If you are really confused, you may take a look at the articles Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese in Wikipedia.

Lord for thy tender mercies' sake (unknown)

Hi Rafael

I've just had a look at the above score on your "to do" list. It seems to be a corrupted version of Farrant's motet by the same name. The phrases move in the same direction as the Farrant and the rhythms are similar. On the Rodeby website it is listed as written by "Dr Tye". Is this Christopher Tye? If so, did one composer imitate the other closely or is it just a bad edition?

I appreciate that this is just a jumble of questions but I hope it helps!

Best, Robert

For how long is a score "New"?

May I reiterate a comment I made on the Forum?:

Just a few queries about how scores are categorised as "new":

 • For how long is a score "new" (that is, has the yy-mm-dd template on it)?
 • What happens when the score ceases to be "new"? is the template automatically deleted?
 • Is there a quick way of replacing the NewWork.png tags with the correct yy-mm-dd template?

Cheers, Rob

Pierre De La Rue & Josquin Des Prez

A little question: I saw you catergorized Pierre De La Rue as .

I changed it in , because:

 1. following your criterion, one would write "Prez, Josquin des"
 2. better: following your criterion (a sort of "dictionary entry style"), one would write "Rue, Pierre de la", since "la" is just an article in French
 3. the name of the composer is often written "Delarue" (as for "Desprez"), so I wouldn't have doubt on the fact that my version is not only more correct, but even more useful to avoid users not finding the right page

A part from knowing French, I don't have a so big acquaintance on the subject. If you are sure you were right, please rollback.

One must either put both "de" and "la" with the first name, or put both with the surname. Seperating them is unheard of and really confuses the issue. You have a point but at the same time, Beethoven is always listed under "B", not under "V" (von Beethoven). If you want to avoid searchers not finding what they are looking for, you can have both entries and use #REDIRECT name goes here to redirect to the other entry. Account and scores apparently deleted

Hi there. In April 2007, I contributed three scores to O nata lux (Thomas Tallis) (in different keys). These scores, my account (which I just today recreated with the same username), and apparently all trace of my contributions in the history appear to have been deleted . Could you let me know what happened here? I just want to check that I'm not going insane... Thanks! Dnwake 06:32, 18 August 2007 (PDT)

Hello David. Unfortunately, the CPDL server suffered a boot sector crash and we lost a couple of months of edits. I'm very sorry that you lost your contributions but I urge you not to be disheartened! We're working on ways to increase the frequency of the backups so that something like this doesn't happen again. Please refer to this forum thread to find out how to restore your lost works. If you encounter any problems, feel free to leave a message on my talk page. --Bobnotts talk 18:35, 18 August 2007 (PDT)

Nachtwache II (Brahms)

Hi Rafael,
just wanted to let you know in your edition the undelying text is without the German umlaut characters.
I therefore had to create my own edition some time ago (which I'm going to contribute soon too) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Geichler (talkcontribs) on 17:45, 18 January 2008.

CPDL problems, some URGENT

Hi Raf. There are a number of problems we're having at CPDL right now, the most recent of which is an apparent permission lock-out from the Williams server. Other problems are outlined in the CPDL support, help, and feedback section of the ChoralWiki:Bulletin board ... which is itself a kludge because the phpBB2 is in terrible shape.

Some admin disabled the phpBB2 recently (and I can understand why, with its current near uselessness), but with intermittent problems last night and this morning (getting a lot of "can't display this page" messages, very long access and process times here at CPDL, etc.) I've enabled the phpBB2 so that at least users can PM each other when CPDL itself is not working properly.

Don't hesitate to e-mail me or telephone me to discuss these concerns. There have been several constructive suggestions, but also considerable unhappiness and discouragement, amongst the ranks of our users and admins. Some issues simply cannot be addressed properly without your input or participation. I think you know that many of us at CPDL, especially myself, are here not only to make CPDL as good and smoothly functioning as it can be, but also quite eager to help you in whatever way we can, no matter what kinds of resources might be required.

I hope you read this soon and can send a quick acknowledgement back to me (just a short reply here will work), together with a means by which we can take a little time to sort things out. -- Chucktalk Giffen 23:19, 11 April 2008 (PDT)

Disambiguation page for Festa

Hi Raf. I just moved things around a bit since your new disambiguation page duplicates one you created a few years ago :-) Hope that's OK. --Bobnotts talk 18:29, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Tables in composer pages

Hi Raf, I just noticed the changes you did to Thomas Morley's page to introduce a sortable table in it. We've been using tables often in Music publications, but never before in composers pages. Don't you think it breaks the general layout of the page? If someone is looking for the composer's works in an alphabetical order, they can always look at the related category, as in Thomas Morley compositions. Alternatively a page could be created for each of his Madrigal Books, where the works could be displayed inside a table, besides additional information on the music publication. What do you think? —Carlos Email.gif 03:35, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Great question! I was looking at the Gesualdo page which has sortable wikitables and works are ordered by publication, the Monteverdi pages which is ordered by genre, then alphabetically, with extra pages for a complete list by publications PLUS individual pages for each publication (these individual pages have sortable wikitables). The Morley page was sorted by publication (like the Gesualdo page). I'm not sure which should be the default page. The Monteverdi approach is the most complete, with some major redundancy issues between the Complete List and the individual publications pages. This issue could be reduced by making the code for the publication page exactly the same as the complete list section. I really don't know which is the best approach in the long term. Would the Morley page be better with an alphabetical/genre based approach to listing (plus complete works page)? -Admin 06:13, 2 November 2009 (UTC)
Hi Raf, I wasn't aware that Carlo Gesualdo's page had been changed to include tables. Looking in the page history I saw this was done quite recently. I'll probably move the tables to new Music publication pages for now, until a new Composer page layout is decided. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 02:52, 3 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi raf, You contributed this piece. Now i was wondering if it is possible that you accidentally notated the measures 10 - 15 one octave down for tenor 1. Can you pls check this De-wolff 00:24, 26 May 2012 (CDT)

Hi Rafael! After 18 years, someone got to Request:Cara mie donna (Francesco Landini). I hadn't realized before we're almost neighbors, as CPDL folk go, and I'll hope we might sing together someday in the future.
