Problems with transcription?
Hello Brian,
I tried to use your edition of [Dindirindin (Anonymous)]. First, the player/viewer for version 2 files of Noteworthy Composer was not so easy to find on their webpage. - Second - When I opened the file, a trailing bar at the end of the song was generated. So I was wondering if you could not export your files towards version 1.75 of noteworthy, where one can arrange the edition by oneself.

I understand that the link on NoteWorthy's site can be hard to find. That's why I included a link directly to the download page in the body of the text at the top of the page. But then, I often don't want to read other people's blatherings about stuff I know, so I'll move the link to the bottom of the text to help place it closer to the file links.
As to adding an extra bar at the end, I was unable to recreate the problem, so I really can't comment intelligently.
You suggested reverting to NoteWorthy 1.75. I'm afraid that isn't really possible. The folks who did the programming have made the formatting able to read the old files, but if you save the file with version 2 it saves it in the new format 2, so version 1.75 can't read it. So this would mean re-entry of the music for the 1.75 files, and with 232 files on CPDL (with another 14 not yet reported there, but already on my site) that's alot of work. I'm a bit slow on the data entry, so this would mean about 360 hours of entry/proofreading. Not my idea of fun.
I trust other people's PDF files as much as my own, but, as I say on the site: PDFs are inherenntly bloated beacuse they carry all the encoding, and NoteWorthy Viewer 2 lets you print directly from it. Yes, you can't see the whole score at one glance (until you print it), but that doesn't really help you see what's going on.
I have a friend who uses Sibelius, but for the price, I'll stay with what I have.

thank you for your kind reply. I understand very well that reentering the partitions is not an option at all. Also for me it is far too time consuming every time i do it. I just put the proposal revert to version 1.75, in case the Program would allow to safe files to the old format. - Which it does not, unfortunatly. - The same Philosophy applies to the Finale program - new program versions can read old files, but not safe to the old format. - Which is really sad in my opinion. You are right, Sibelius is too expensive for non-professional use.

P.S: Ftp access to www.cpdl.free.fr is only possible using ip-numbers within the free.fr range.
Links to scores on composer pages
Hi Brian. I've just editing a page that you recently edited, Thomas Greaves to remove any links to scores (your edition or the other), leaving just the italicised text "2 editions available" in line with CPDL general conventions. In the case of there being 2 or more editions of a work available, the relevent entry on the composer page should not be accompanied by links to scores but instead just a notice which tells the user that they will have to follow the link to the score page for a choice of which edition to use. The only exception is when the editions are by the same editor in which case there may be a preference chosen by the editor. Incidentally, I've recently created a PDF from one of your scores and uploaded it to CPDL and made a link to it from the edition page. It is here. I hope that you approve. Byrd Lullaby is sacred, not secular
Hi Brian,
The Byrd "Lullaby, my sweet little baby" which you just posted is actually a sacred madrigal/carol, not secular. Indeed, on Lullaby my sweet little baby (William Byrd), you seem to have posted this work previously on 2006-11-17. This page is linked on the Byrd page under Sacred music in English. The text is a lullaby to the infant Jesus and tells of the slaughter of the innocents. I've sung this work numerous times on Christmas concerts with Zephyrus. composer cleanup
Hi Brian. Thanks for getting involved with the composer page cleanup! Giles Farnaby looks a lot better now. Just a couple of things
- the text "n editions available" should be italicised as with the other instances
- the files available at an external site are not listed on composer pages to avoid cluttering it up, so just "
" rather than " MIDI and NOTEWORTHY"

Robert, I've been trying to get the edition #s on the Farnaby composer page to italicize, but nothing seems to work. I tried a copy/paste from some that work, I tried the Italicize button at the top of the window, then copy/paste including the end of a good one as far back as taking a bracket from the end of the marker for the title, but to no avail. Could you help me out?

- Ha ha! learning curve is not a problem :-) I've just fixed the page. It took me a moment to work out what was going on but anyway - the reason why the text wasn't italicising was because the previous italics tag from the link to the score page hadn't been closed, thus:
- *[[''Score page title (Composer name)|Score page title]] ... when it should have been:
- *[[''Score page title (Composer name)|Score page title'']] ...
