BA Mus (UCC), BMus (Cork School of Music), MLitt (Trinity College Dublin), MAS Advanced Vocal Ensemble Studies / MA Composition and theory of Early Music (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis).

Background

Simon MacHale has written music for theatre, choirs and orchestra, and is also recognised as a composer of original songs and electronic music. He studied in UCC, Cork School of Music, Trinity College Dublin, and Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, where he completed an MA in the Theory and Composition of Early Music. His choral style shares similarities with English composers like Howells and Rubbra, and also shows a strong influence of Early Music. In 2010 he was awarded first prize in the Sean O Riada Composition Competition at the Cork Choral Festival for his piece With Heart And Soul And Voice (premiered by Chamber Choir Ireland under Paul Hillier).

He has specialised in editing and performing Early Music for several years.
