Born in Treorci in the famous Rhondda valley in Wales, David was born into a musical family. Both grand fathers were celebrated local musicians, his paternal grand father Ivor Cynan was an organist in Siloh Chapel and conductor of the local youth choir. His maternal grandfather, David Davies was the bass soloist in the famous Treorchy Male Voice Choir. His uncle John Rhoslyn Davies became Music adviser in Montgomeryshire before taking up a post as repetiteur at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. He would later study with Carlo Zechi in Italy with such noted musicians as Daniel Baremboim, Claudio Abbado and Sir Colin Davies. His untimely early death robbed the musical world of a great tallent.
