Biography

He was apprenticed in 1751 to Thomas Capell, who was organist at Chichester Cathedral from 1744 to 1765. Tremain served as organist of Chichester Cathedral (either holding the position in his own right or acting as Capell's deputy) from 1771 to 1775[1]. He subsequently worked as an organist in Andover in the 1780s, during which time his two collections of church music were published: subscribers to these works include Chichester Cathedral dignitaries.
