1  Forth frm the icy fountains
Flows the giant Rhine,
Where adown the mountains
Falls the forest pine;
Where the pine is falling
Flashing waves among,
First to echo calling,
Rings the Rhine-raft song.

2  On in shine and shadow,
By the vineyard bower,
Past the cornland meadow,
On by town and tower;
On, the might river
Broadens deep and strong,
While to echo ever
Rings the Rhine-raft song.

3  On, and onward flowing,
Past the reedy land,
Where the sea-wind blowing
Drifts the golden sand;
Till the stream rejoices
Ocean waves among,
There, from farewell voices,
Rings the Rhine-raft song.
