Sort key

Please could any of the admins edit this template to allow for a third optional sort key parameter? I believe we'd have to add the code in red (not sure):

[[Category:{{{1}}} texts|{{{3|{{PAGENAME}}}}}]]

Also, what is the second parameter good for? A documentation with examples would help :). Thanks! -- CarlosTalk 13:43, 30 April 2008 (PDT)

Done. I've been too busy to add documentation, but
{{text|XYZ|ABC}}
would result in the banner ABCXYZ text. Notice that the (non-existent) File:XYZ.png does not get linked.
A more typical usage might be
{{text|Quenya|}}
resulting in Quenya text (no flag).

Hi Chuck, thanks for the examples, now it's clear! Is there a way to extend the banner text and still keep the flag? A use for it that comes to my mind is in John Dowland's works, for instance, where we would be able to display "English.png Early Modern English" ( {{Text|English| Early Modern}} ). But perhaps it's too much detail.

cat=no

This template can now be used to include the title and flag on a score page without categorising the page in "Category:Language texts" but it also needs to prevent the page from being categorised in "Category:Texts". Could this change be implemented, please? --Bobnotts talk 10:01, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Done. (Although I'm not sure if Chuck made it that way on purpose.) —Carlos Email.gif 04:14, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
I just emptied Category:English original texts, but is there a way to search for other red Category:Original spelling texts categories? Richard Mix (talk) 01:13, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
After having clicked on 'Special pages' on the left, then on 'Replace text', I've typed 'original text' in both rectangles. 111 occurrences were shown, none of them was preceded by 'Category'. For what is worth. Claude (talk) 05:22, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
Thanks Claude; I haven't done enough exploring of the Tools menu! "sh original text" narrows the results to 4, none of them Finnish ;-) Not being able to figure out a wildcard, I also tried "Text|Original" to look for 'original * text' within the template, with no hits. I checked for "modernized" and "standardized" too. Richard Mix (talk) 06:54, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Alignment

User:John Hetland pointed out a weird half-line misalignment of the parallel text/translation at Jesu Christe, auctor vitae (Heinrich Finck)#Original text and translations. It seems to only apply to parallel flags (BCP & KJV at Magnificat#Texts used in settings and translations looks fine) but also is hardly noticeable when 2 flags are identical: Als das Volk Israel auszog, SWV 212 (Heinrich Schütz)#Original text and translations. Richard Mix (talk) 02:11, 2 April 2021 (UTC)

The first page cited had just a superfluous blank line to be removed, before the 'Translation|English' one. I don't see any issue in the two other pages. Claude (talk) 05:22, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
I'm having unexpected trouble making a screenshot, but the replacement with Template:Top &c has made no change on my end: it's still a fraction of a line off. Richard Mix (talk) 23:35, 2 April 2021 (UTC)
I have looked at a number of pages, and the situation is the same. I believe this is systemic, probably imbedded in MediaWiki. — Barry Johnston (talk) 02:41, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

The bottom is even further out, and swapping right and left confirms that English actually takes up more vertical space than Latin.Richard Mix (talk) 02:51, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

So it could be a matter of different heights of different flags. Claude (talk) 05:54, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
