I've added a LinkText to the Vexilla Regis page. I suggest that the Text & Translations be removed from this page, and those not present on the Vexilla page be added. I would be happy to work on this but would like admin feedback before making such severe change. Also, after adding that LinkText, this page does not show up on the Vexilla page. It compiles the list from a TextSettingsList template. Just a time lag/updating the server DB? -Paul Marchesano Marchesa 03:48, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

:Hi Paul, have you noticed that the Latin text on this page is slightly different from the one on the Vexilla Regis page? In these cases we usually keep the differing text on the works page, and also add a link to the text page as you did. Template:LinkText doesn't create an automated link to the text page, it's done only by template:LnkTxt (in conjunction with TextSettingsList). I think it's ok to add another English translation to the text page, please go ahead! —Carlos [ mail] 04:24, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

Originally the hymn comprised eight stanzas. In the tenth century, stanzas 7 and 8 were gradually replaced by new ones ("O crux ave, spes unica", and the doxology, "Te summa Deus Trinitas"). Bruckner's motet incorporates stanzas 1, 6 and 7 of a text by Venantius Forunatus. See http://www.thelatinlibrary.com/venantius.html for the complete text. Patterson 19:16, 24 June 2009 (UTC)

If and when the cleanup on text occurs, the English translation whould be improved. It is a free poetic translation adding much text and meaning not in the original Latin. I will try to work on a better one. -Paul Marchesano Marchesa 03:25, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

n.b. I found the 1852 Sarum psalter translation online which is much better translation of the Latin. When the below is decided, I will post that translation in addition to the Walter Blount one now posted.Marchesa 03:48, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
