References to the Plague?
Is there a reason for dropping the paragraph
Subtitled contra pestem (against the plague) in Pierre Attaingnant's 1534 edition, this motet is a setting of an ancient prayer against disease. Verdelot himself may have been a victim of the 1527 plague outbreak in Florence. The choir of the cathedral there was dissolved in its midst, leaving him without work. There followed no further records of his life.
from the Description? This story is mentioned on Verdelot's page and on the Wikipedia page as well. — Barry Johnston (talk) 00:38, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
- "Eric Jas has pointed out that the subtitle 'Contra pestem' is not relevant to Verdelot's motet 'Infirmitatem nostram' but rather his setting of 'Recordare Domine'. The original partbooks confirm this. 'Infirmitatem nostram' has the supertitle 'Oratio'." – Email from Hildegard of Brompton 01:40, 19 August 2023
