This piece is surely for SATB? The "first tenor" part, as given here in the G octave clef, has several notes below the bass part and a very low tessitura throughout. If it is read in the ordinary G clef (i.e. transposed up an octave) and assigned "alto" it becomes more logical and the piece itself more practical.
