Interesting that you call this tune "Botallack", Christopher. As you no doubt know, but perhaps not many others, Botallack is a village not far from Lands End in Cornwall. Might I ask - why? [I live not so far from there, and occasionally write church music, including hymn tunes. There can't be many of us hereabouts!! ]

On a musical note, the 'D' in the top part in the last line: is that D natural or D flat. If D natural as written it is the 'leading note', leading towards an E flat that isn't there.

I'm a native and resident of Norfolk myself, but married into St. Just ancestry, and following numerous visits have named several tunes after local hamlets - I've just uploaded Bosavern (87. 87) and will be adding more soon.
Definitely D natural - while I see what you mean about wanting to carry on up, I've tried it through with a D flat, and it sounds just right to me as it is.

The D flat suggestion is indeed interesting; I tried to figure out in my mind how it would sound and liked the resulting line. As an exercise, I imported the midi into Encore and played it with D flat and natural, and concluded that both work equally well, perhaps because of the E flat sung by the Altos in bar 9. —Carlos Email.gif 18:23, 29 May 2012 (CDT)
Thanks for 'filling me in', Christopher. Where I live they don't admit to the existence of St. Just - you may need to ask your in-laws to explain! LOL!! I came to Cornwall 23 years ago from London to work but have since retired.
On the D natural point that I raised (!!), you are the composer, so if that's what you intended and want ... fine.
