Description: For the Feast of St. Peter and St. Paul, June 29 (or perhaps St. Peter in Chains, August 1). After Acts 12:7-8, where an angel frees Peter from prison.

Original text and translations

Latin text Súrge, Pétre, et índue te vestiméntis túis. Accipe fortitúdinem ad salvándas géntes, quía cecidérunt caténae de mánibus túis. Angelus Dómini ástitit, et lúmen refúlsit in habitáculo cárceris, percussóque látere Pétri, excitávit éum, dícens: Súrge velóciter, quía cecidérunt caténae de mánibus túis.

English translation Get up, Peter, and put on your clothes. Take on the strength for saving the gentiles, for the chains have fallen from your hands. An angel of the Lord appeared, and a light shone in the prison cell, and he struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying: Get up quickly, for the chains have fallen from your hands.
