 modernized
Sur l'aubepin, qui est en fleur,
Se dégoise la philomène;
D'autre côte progne sa sœur
En son chant joie démène.
Châcun pour l'amour de la sienne
Dit mille motets en musique;
Mais moi à tout d'oeil je m'applique,
Parce que ici ne vois la mienne.

English.png English translation

The nightingale warbles
On the hawthorn in blossom;
And on the other side the linnet, its sister,
Promotes joy with its song.
Each sings a thousand serenades
For love of its mate;
But I myself search everywhere,
Since I don't see my lover here.
