1  When o'er the peaceful, scented glade,
The angry storm has swept;
And drooping hangs each tender blade,
As though the flowers wept;
How gloriously awaking,
Where frowning vapour crowds,
O'er mist and gloom comes breaking,
The sunshine through the clouds!
Sparkling and flashing,
All like a jewelled stream;
The light of joy and beauty
In every golden beam!

2  When o'er the tender, saddened heart
The storm of grief has past;
Each breath a sigh, each thought a smart,
It hopes to be the last!
How joyously awaking,
Where sorrow's gloom enshrouds,
O'er fear and doubt comes breaking,
The sunshine through the clouds!
Sparkling and flashing,
All like a jewelled stream;
The light of love and comfort
In every golden beam!

3  There's not a day but has its grief,
An hour but has its smile;
And ah! how sweet is the belief
That pain lasts but awhile!
And when the heart is aching,
As sadness o'er it crowds,
O'er fear and doubt comes breaking,
The sunshine through the clouds!
Sparkling and flashing,
All like a jewelled stream;
The light of joy and beauty
In every golden beam!
