Per uscir di dolore
Un sospir che dicea: "L'anima spiro!"
Quando la Donna mia più d'un sospiro
Anch'ella sospirò che parea dire:
"Non morir, non morire!"

My heart sighed
In order to escape from suffering,
A sigh that said "My soul expires!"
Then my Lady heaved more than one sigh,
She too, sighs that seemed to say:
"Do not die! Do not die!"
