Sacred Harmony (John Eagleton)

General information

John Eagleton's Sacred Harmony is described on the title page as 'A Set of Tunes, adapted to D^r Watts's Psalms & Hymns, the Rev^d G. Burder's Supplement and the Rev^d J. Wesley's Collection: Composed in an easy Style, and the whole figured for the Organ, Piano Forte, &c.'.

The collection was published in London, being 'Printed for the Author, and sold by JAMES PECK, N^o 47 Lombard Street. Sold also by BUTTON & WHITAKER S^t Pauls Church Yard. T. WILLIAMS, Stationer's Court. and by all MUSIC SELLERS in the kingdom.'

The collection consists of 27 hymn tunes, all with texts: it written in four parts, with the air on the third stave down, bracketed together with the bass. While it is not dated, Lightwood dates it to 1816.
