Clementine Vulgate (Psalm 29)Latin text 1 Psalmus cantici, in dedicatione domus David. 2 Exaltabo te, Domine, quoniam suscepisti me, nec delectasti inimicos meos super me. 3 Domine Deus meus, clamavi ad te, et sanasti me. 4 Domine, eduxisti ab inferno animam meam; salvasti me a descendentibus in lacum. 5 Psallite Domino, sancti ejus; et confitemini memoriae 6 Quoniam ira in indignatione ejus, et vita in voluntate ejus: 7 Ego autem dixi in abundantia mea: Non movebor in æternum. 8 Domine, in voluntate tua praestitisti decori meo virtutem; avertisti faciem tuam a me, et factus sum conturbatus. Domine Deus meus, in æternum confitebor tibi. |
Church of England 1662 Book of Common PrayerEnglish text Psalm for the dedication of the house of David. 1 I will magnify thee, O Lord, for thou hast set me up: and not made my foes to triumph over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee: and thou hast healed me. 3 Thou, Lord, hast brought my soul out of hell: thou hast kept my life from them that go down to the pit. 4 Sing praises unto the Lord, O ye saints of his: and give thanks unto him for a remembrance 5 For his wrath endureth but the twinkling of an eye, and in his pleasure is life: 6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be removed: thou, Lord, of thy goodness hast made my hill so strong. 7 Thou didst turn thy face from me: and I was troubled. 8 Then cried I unto thee, O Lord: and gat me to my Lord right humbly. 9 What profit is there in my blood: when I go down to the pit? 10 Shall the dust give thanks unto thee: or shall it declare thy truth? 11 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. 12 Thou hast turned my heaviness into joy: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness. 13 Therefore shall every good man sing of thy praise without ceasing: O my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever. |
King James VersionEnglish text 1 I will extol thee, O Lord; for thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me. 2 O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. 3 O Lord, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit. 4 Sing unto the Lord, O ye saints of his, and give thanks at the remembrance of his holiness. 5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. 6 And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. 7 Lord, by thy favour thou hast made my mountain to stand strong: thou didst hide thy face, and I was troubled. 8 I cried to thee, O Lord; and unto the Lord I made supplication. 9 What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise thee? shall it declare thy truth? 10 Hear, O Lord, and have mercy upon me: Lord, be thou my helper. 11 Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness; 12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to thee, and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks unto thee for ever. |
