Biography: Composer, music theorist and renown poet. Believed to have written the defining treatise on Ars Nova in 1322, after which this musical stylistic period is known. Most of the motets, like the poems, related to the politics of the time. The number of surviving works lies between 11 and 26, with 16 attributions being generally accepted; Polyphonic music of the fourteenth century v. 1 contains Leo Schrade's edition of the Complete Works with 14 motets, all for 3 or 4 voices.
