This carol is a translated and minimally adapted version of the German carol O Tannenbaum (Traditional), sung to a traditional Silesian folk melody, with lyrics by Ernst Anschütz (1824), built upon lyrics by Joachim August Christian Zarnack (1819). “Tannenbaum” literally translates to “Evergreen” The song is known in English as O Christmas Tree (Traditional).
