Description: "A prayer for the long preservation of the king and his posterity", written in response to the Gunpowder Plot, 1605. The text adopts the tone of those prayers for the royal family included in the litany in the Book of Common Prayer (1559). Henry (Prince of Wales) did not survive to inherit the throne. A piece for private devotions rather than as part of the Anglican liturgy.

O Lord, bow down thine ear unto our prayers, which we make to thee in
thy son's name; and for his sake preserve our gracious king and queen
from all their enemies. Continue, O Lord, their deliverance from the
conspiracies of all such as rise up against them. Preserve also his royal
progeny, Prince Henry and the rest, even through the same our Lord
Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee and the Holy Ghost,
both now and ever. Amen.
