Now is the month of Maying,
When merry lads are playing. Fa la la.
Each with his bonny lasse,
upon the greeny grasse. Fa la la.
The Spring clad all in gladnesse,
Doth laugh at Winter’s sadnesse, Fa la la.
And to the Bagpips sound
The Nimphs tread out their ground. Fa la la.
Fye then! Why sit wee musing,
Youths sweet delight refusing? Fa la la.
Say, daintie Nimphs and speake,
Shall wee play barly breake? Fa la la.

Now is the month of Maying,
When merry lads are playing, Fa la la.
Each with his bonny lass
Upon the greeny grass,* Fa la la.
The Spring, clad all in gladness,
Doth laugh at Winter’s sadness, Fa la la.
And to the bagpipe’s** sound
The nymphs tread out their ground, Fa la la.
Fie then! why sit we musing
Youth’s sweet delight refusing? Fa la la.
Say, dainty nymphs, and speak,
Shall we play Barley-break? Fa la la.

Printempas kiam majas,
Ludantaj knaboj gajas, Fa la la!
Kun inoj sur herbej’
Ĉar nun ĝi verdas plej. Fa la la!
Somero ĝojon portas,
Jen vintra tristo mortas. Fa la la!
Kaj logas la ŝalmson’
La nimfojn kun impon’. Fa la la!
Fi, kial ni meditas?
Junaĝa rav’ invitas. Fa la la!
Ho, nimfoj kun graci’,
Ekludu nun kun ni. Fa la la!
