Neapolitan Bagpipe Carol
- 1.
- Now when the new-born baby
- In Bethlehem did lie
- The night appeared as bright as the sun
- In the shining noonday sky.
- Shining so brightly, glowing so lightly,
- Thousands of stars cast their light upon earth
- To greatest and to least.
- The brightest of all shone out to call
- The wise men from the East.
- 2.
- To shepherds in the meadows
- Who watched their flocks by night
- An angel came in the heart of the fold
- All ringed with heavenly light.
- “Shepherds so humble, shepherds so faithful,
- Lift up your eyes, be not afraid –
- Glad tidings you I bring,
- For Christ the Lord, the dear Son of God,
- Is born to be your King.”
- 3.
- Then men gave up their strife
- And peace with mercy came:
- The leopard so wild lay down with the calf
- And the lion with the lamb.
- No more anger, no more danger;
- Swords into ploughshares, joy upon earth:
- The wolf shall guard the fold.
- All creatures rejoice with heart and voice –
- Good will to all the world.
