Lungi da voi, mia vita, ardo,
e sfavillo presso di te ben mio.
M'induro aggiaccio,
ne già per tai contrari io mi disfaccio,
ma sol dogliosi humor da gl'occhi stillo
vorrei ben che'l suave tranquillo
de tuoi begl' occhi il mio si duro laccio.
Ambi cagion de l'amoroso impaccio
ponesser fine al lacrimoso stillo.

Ver van jou, mijn leven, sta ik in brand,
en schitter nabij jou, mijn liefste.
Ik tracht zulke tegenstellingen ongedaan te maken,
maar vind alleen pijnlijke scherts in je ogen.
Ik wens wel dat ik zacht en rustig ben
in de strik van je mooie ogen.
Beide te willen geeft amoureus onbehagen
om einde te maken aan de tranenstroom.
